Government yields to fasting Varun Arya, Director AIM Government of Rajasthan Yields to Fasting Varun Arya, Director AIM finally approved Land Use Change of barren land purchased by Aravali Institute of Management for Education purpose on sixth day of fast – after 150 hours of fasting even as his BP dropped to 90 and was refusing medical treatment. He began the fast on 12th at 10 AM at Jantar Mantar and received the approval on 18th at 6PM. Varun Arya dreamt of building an Institute at par with IIT or IIM in Jodhpur with indigenous efforts since 1999 and was encountering bureaucratic challenges. AIM couldn’t afford a 100 acre plot near Jodhpur so he purchased barren land 50 km away from Jodhpur and introduced rain water harvesting and made it fit for building world class institute. But for more than two years he was battling with bureaucracy for the conversion and has paid Rs.60 lakh as conversion charges on March31, 2009. But after sic months GoR returned the cheque. Two hours a social worker and aid of Rahul Gandhi came to enquire about the case and in three hours letter of approval was delivered to fasting Varun Arya. His fight against corruption on Gandhian principles finally succeeded.
